Weise Building RenovationLocation: Milwaukee, WI
Type: Residential The Weise Building, located on Farwell Ave on Milwaukee’s east side, has been in the Weise family since the Paul Weise commissioned Alexander Eschweiler to build them a new structure to house the growing Weise Furniture Company in 1912. In 2021, having purchased the building from the Weise Family, the new owner wanted to create a respectful renovation of the building, converting it to a new multi-family development, while maintaining and restoring its historic characteristics. The exterior of the building will be restored to its original state, with repairs to the brick, stonework and capstone. There is a new stair tower addition that was gracefully placed on the east side to minimize its appearance but still provide an efficient means of egress. The main lobby keeps its historic detailing including the plaster crown moulding, plaster column capitols, refurbished chandeliers and wood trim. The upper floors will house 12 apartment units that will have spacious kitchens and living areas, as well as laundry in each room. The rooftop deck provides a nice amenity for the residents and will have a view of the lake. |
