Vita Fitness is a growing Physical Therapy clinic that provides medically-guided fitness programs to their clients as they recover from injury, are transitioning from physical therapy, or are new to exercise. Their new location in Wauwatoasa, WI is a renovation of a historic pumphouse that was once an industrial space that housed boilers, pumps and other equipment. DBA renovated approximately 2,800sf, converting the space into physical therapy rooms, as well as two fitness spaces that hold aerobic and weight training equipment.
The existing space is a tall, two story volume with exposed steel trusses, exposed brick, and large arched windows that bring ample daylight into the space. DBA’s design goal was to highlight the unique historic features of the space while navigating the different floor levels that were part of the original building. The project received Historic Tax Credits and because of this, the team has to design the space per the NPS Historic Renovation Guidelines. The end result is a wonderful space that celebrates the historic building while creating an inspiring space for therapy and fitness activities. |
