Aemilian Preschool is a successful educational facility that was busting at the seams in their old space and found a space that had ample space in a location that served their student population. The only issue was that the space was located in a single story office building and required a complete renovation to accommodate their classrooms and activity spaces. DBA was hired to provide design services to completely renovate the office space and transform it into lively spaces that had exposed ceilings, plenty of daylight and colorful classrooms.
The design created a dynamic “main street” that was a public space outside the classrooms where the children could pack and unpack as they get dropped off and picked up by their parents. This internal space’s high ceilings, and clearstory windows into the classroom, and colorful palate of materials, provides a pleasant and calming space as the children transition into the structured activities of the classroom. The colorful materials of the main street are continued inside the classroom where ample daylight, and clearly defined zones for play, eating and storage contribute to an engaging space where the children have a comfortable place to learn and play.
